This board game, created to satirize the concept of arranged-marriages, is a breath of fresh air for those unmarried young individuals who are constantly battling the question, “Shaadi kab karoge?”
The 24-year-old Pakistani game designer, Nashra Balagamwala, created this hilariously conceptualized game-with-a-purpose called "Arranged!"
The game inspired by her own experiences offers the roles of three female protagonists or "Rishta Aunty", the matchmaker.
The bachelorettes must escape "Rishta Aunty" and the arranged marriage just by making themselves seem absolutely undesirable and like a bad daughter-in-law. The game is strewn with subtle messages like moving four steps ahead if they wish to pursue a career, indirectly suggesting that a career oriented woman is deemed undesirable by prospective in-laws and husbands.
Playing as “Rishta Aunty” your goal is to get the bachelorettes married as soon as possible. This “Aunty Ji” will be constantly gathering information about the bachelorettes like their chapatti making skills, their dowry bringing potential, etc.
The interesting part about the game is that the winner gets to marry the one they love, “Mr. Right”, and the others end up with womanizers and “mama’s boys”.
The game, inspired by her own experience, helped her dodge the bullet of arranged marriage as she is not a submissive bride reckoned perfect, but instead has become undesirable, perhaps, due to her strong-mind, and independent will.
