With the holy month of Ramadan coming to an end, the people across UAE are gearing up for Eid Al Fitr, which is celebrated at the conclusion of their month-long fasting period.

Like all other things in Islam, even celebrations start with prayer.

There, on the first day of Eid Al Fitr, mosques will welcome worshippers wearing their finery shortly after sunrise for special congregational prayers celebrating the end of Ramadan. In light of the current situation, officials have announced that there would be no congregation set up outside mosques for prayers this year and only withinside attending prayers will be carried out across the schools.

What time should you head to the mosques?

Eid prayers are typically held about 15 to 20 minutes after sunrise, which means the prayers will be held between 6.30am and 6.50am across the Emirates. As mosques are expected to be busy, worshippers are advised to arrive as early as 6-6.15am.

Dubai

The Eid Al Fitr prayer will take place in Dubai at 6.40am, according to the Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities Department (IACAD). The prayers will be held in all mosques across the emirate, and residents are encouraged to go to their closest one. The movement of worshippers will be facilitated and managed by Dubai Police through the traffic.

Abu Dhabi

Based on the Hijri calendar published in the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque Centre, it is expected that Eid prayer times will be:

Abu Dhabi City: 6.43am
Al Ain: 6.37am
Zayed City: 6.47am

Sharjah

According to the Hijri calendar issued by the Department of Islamic Affairs in Sharjah, the timings are as follows:

Sharjah and Al Hamriyah: 6.39am
Al Dhaid and Al Bataeh: 6.38am
Al Madam and Mleiha: 6.38am
Eastern Region: 6.37am

Ajman

Ajman mostly has similar timings to Sharjah — with Eid prayers around 6.39am.

Umm Al Quwain

The prayers are set to be held at 6.39am.

Ras Al Khaimah

Mosques across the emirate are expected to host the prayer at 6.37am.

Fujairah

The Eid prayer timing is expected to be 6.36am.

Sunnahs and etiquette of Eid prayer

Muslims practice many of the recommended things before moving to Eid prayers and after coming back. These include:

• Ghusl (ritual washing), applying perfume and wearing the finest clothes

• Before departing for prayer, one consumes an odd number of dates.

• Walking to the prayer ground if possible. 

• Following one way to the prayer, and having a different way back

Whereas the Eid prayer is 2 rak‘ahs with extra takbeers.

In the first rak‘ah, they say another seven takbeers after saying the takbeer to open the prayer; in the second rak‘ah there are six more before resuming their prayer.

Muslims typically stay back after the prayer to greet each other and celebrate with their family or community members
