Devon fire crews called to plane crash and fire which 'severely damaged' van

North Devon fire crews had a busy day attending to a plane crash and a fire which left a van "severely damaged".

This afternoon (Friday, April 28) one crew from South Molton and Tiverton were mobilised to a van on fire near Stonelands Cross on the A361.

On arrival the vehicle was well alight and was extinguished using two breathing apparatus wearers and two hosereel jets. The van was left severely damaged.

This afternoon the 4x4 off road vehicle from South Molton and fire appliances from Chulmleigh and Torrington were mobilised to reports of a plane crash near Eaglescott airfield, Burrington.

On arrival it was discovered the aircraft had come down in a field and crashed into trees and a hedgerow.Two people on board escaped injury and crews dealt with a fuel leak using jerrycans, buckets and paste to stem the leak.The battery was disconnected to make the plane safe.
