Russia to provide visa-free entry for football fans till year end

Russia will provide visa-free entry for foreign football fans with relevant IDs until the end of 2018, Russian President Vladimir Putin said.

Visitors holding "fan ID" cards for the World Cup could have visa-free entry to Russia for the rest of 2018, news agencies reported.

"I think that we will provide a visa-free entrance to Russia for foreign fans, who currently have fan IDs, until the end of 2018. This will be a multiple entry visa-free regime," Putin told reporters following the awards ceremony of the World Cup tournament that just concluded.

Fan IDs were previously set to be valid from June 4 to July 25.

According to Russian news agency Sputnik, the Russian leader expressed hope that fans will take advantage of this opportunity and "come to Russia more than once with friends and members of their families."

Putin has taken part in the closing ceremony of the championship and the ceremony of awarding the winner.
