$6 bn budget for World Cup stadiums, facilities: Thawadi

Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy (SC) Secretary-General Hassan al Thawadi has said the budget for 2022 FIFA World Cup stadiums and its facilities was estimated to be around $6 billion.

“The budget for stadiums and associated facilities for hosting of the 2022 World Cup is about $6 billion,” Thawadi said in an interview with Russian news agency Sputnik.

“The construction work for the World Cup has triggered a positive economic movement in the state,” he said.

“For example, the Metro has a positive impact on the state, whether in terms of transport infrastructure or in terms of providing jobs. This is a big step for the transportation sector and has a positive impact on the economy,” he added.

Thawadi said there is continuous communication with the Russians to benefit from the success of the 2018 FIFA World Cup.

“We are very keen to communicate and benefit from the experience of Russians. Now, there is cooperation in the field of security. We had a team from Russia during the opening of the Al Janoub Stadium,” Thawadi added.
