Cristiano Ronaldo Tops Lionel Messi By $150 Million In Global Earnings

Dominating The Financial Leaderboard

Cristiano Ronaldo is earning twice as much as Lionel Messi in 2026. Sportico recently published its definitive list of the world’s highest-paid soccer players. Ronaldo tops the prestigious list with an estimated $300 million in total earnings. This gives him a massive $150 million advantage over his longtime rival.  The Portugal captain is projected to earn $250 million on the field this year. He will generate another $50 million off the pitch through lucrative endorsements. The 41-year-old continues to build his massive commercial portfolio globally. He earns his massive salary playing for Saudi Pro League side Al Nassr.

Expanding Commercial Empires

Sportico’s broader athlete rankings also place Ronaldo at the top of overall earnings. Messi, meanwhile, will earn an estimated $150 million total this year. This splits evenly between $75 million from on-field earnings and commercial activities. The 39-year-old remains a massive star with Inter Miami in the US.  He recently signed a major contract extension that runs through 2028. Away from football, both athletes continue to expand their massive business interests. Messi works on major collaborations involving Kalshi and OpenAI currently. Ronaldo added strategic partnerships with Dreame and Lego to his portfolio.

Approaching The End Of An Era

The Argentine recently announced buying a 100 percent stake in UE Cornella. Rumors also swirl around Ronaldo potentially buying a stake in Al Nassr. Both superstars are approaching major decisions over their international playing careers. Messi will play his final Argentina match against Benin on October 7.  Ronaldo’s future with the Portugal national team remains far less certain. His unexplained departure from Portugal’s camp raised serious questions about what comes next.
