The meridian system is a network that helps distribute blood, vital bodily fluids, and metabolic energies. Within this network are meridian points on the body that when stimulated can produce healing within the body.
There are 12 principal meridians to consider and we are going to discuss one of them that can bring you protection against disease.
First, the method of applying the stimulation is called acupressure, which is bodywork that piggybacks off the same concept of acupuncture. The beauty of this bodywork is there are no needles involved.
In general, acupressure is known for improving things like metabolism, energy levels, moods, etc.
Now that we have discussed the method of application, let’s talk a little about the history of this meridian point. Chinese medicine refers to it as “the point of 100 diseases” and in Japan they call it “the point of longevity.” I suppose no matter how you slice it, it appears our health will benefit from massaging this spot (Zu San Li) on our body.
How to Find This Spot
Place your index and middle fingers under your kneecap as shown in the photo below.
Ancient Chinese medicine says that by using acupressure (massage) on this spot you can activate protection from several diseases and health issues. They have even been using for promoting health and comfort in the elderly community.
Some of the benefits include healing for the kidneys, digestion, adrenal glands, balancing hormones, and reproductive health (even helps with impotence).
Feeling stressed out? This is great for releasing tension in the body and mind.
Other benefits of the Zu San Li point:
reduces inflammation
balances glucose
stabilizes insulin
promotes healthy digestion
promotes weight loss
relieves tension headaches
Zu San Li Accupressure Protocol
Here’s a protocol to follow:
Sit upright in a chair and close your eyes.
Take three deep, slow breathes and bring your full awareness to how the air going in and out feels.
Continue to pay attention to your breath for a count of 30 seconds.
Now reach down, while keeping your eyes closed, and start to massage the spot below the knee using 13 circular, clockwise movements.
Repeat this 4-step process on the other leg.
Do this for each leg, three times each.
Best time for the protocol is first thing in the morning. Some say that if you try this at night they can’t sleep, you can experiment with this for yourself to see the results.
