Briony Caitlin Klingberg, a 10-year old little girl from Australia had began to feel feverish and sick one day to the point where she stopped eating and drinking that her mother Bridget took her daughter to several doctors.
The doctors saw dozens of little ulcers at the back of Briony's throat. Doctors believed those ulcers were just cold sores, so the daughter was given antibiotics and sent home and was told to come back the following week for a follow-up appointment.
However, Briony didn’t make it to her next appointment because shortly after she was diagnosed, she passed away from a then-undiagnosed illness.
It turns out that Briony is suffering a herpes simplex virus, a common yet dangerous illness. Three days later, Briony suffered massive organ failure and died as a result of her untreated case of herpes simplex virus.
These symptoms include the abrupt onset of the illness, fever, irritability, inability to eat or drink, gingivitis, increased drooling in infants due to pain when swallowing, and small fluid-filled sacs on the tongue.
To prevent the spread of this virus, avoid kissing your children on the lips, and always make sure that anything that goes into your children’s mouth is clean. In addition to this, never share utensils with your kid.
In 2014, a newborn baby died from complications due to herpes simplex virus — which was transferred to her by a single kiss. More parents are speaking out about the dangers of kissing babies, for this very reason.
