We Did Some Research To Find Out If Zumba Really Helps In Weight Loss

Zumba’s become the next best thing and although you’ve heard the name thrown around a lot, you’re not too sure what it is. Zumba is a fitness program that combines dance and aerobic movements, performed to energetic music. If you find it tough to stick to boring weight loss workout routines, Zumba might just be the thing for you – their tagline says it all: Ditch the Workout, Join the Party!

How Many Calories Do You Burn With Zumba?

“A woman who weighs 55 kgs will burn approximately 485 calories with one hour of Zumba”

Typically, Zumba classes use Latin-inspired music such as the samba, salsa, mambo, and hip-hop, but in recent years, many Indian dance studios have started to include local musical genres and styles such as Bollywood, Bhangra, and belly dancing too. The high-energy music in the classes keeps you on your toes the entire time, so yes, you can burn a lot of calories with Zumba. However, the number of calories you burn will depend largely on your current weight and fitness levels.

On average, Indian women are approximately 5 feet tall and weigh around 55 kgs. This means that you will burn about 485 calories in one hour of Zumba. However, this is assuming that you stick to a high-speed routine and keep it going for the entire hour.  But, if you are still working on your fitness levels, you will need to stick with a medium-paced routine which means that you will probably burn 250-350 calories per hour.

To put this in perspective, you would expend 424 calories if you jogged for an hour, so obviously an hour of Zumba sounds like a much better option since it burns more calories and is just plain fun!

Will Zumba Melt That Spare Tire?

“Zumba lowers stress levels & improves body image, which will keep you coming back for more & therefore help you shed the excess weight”

You may be eager to lose the fat on your belly, but spot reduction doesn’t work, so instead focus on getting in shape. Any exercise will help you lose weight as long as it is sustained physical effort. Most vigorous forms of exercise get monotonous after a while which is why people often fall off the fitness wagon. However, Zumba classes can be extremely invigorating and the music and rhythm of your dance will get you all revved up and ready to party!

If you go to a gym, you will have to go through a number of exercises and track your sets and reps to make sure that all your muscle groups are engaged. But if you go to a Zumba class, you just get to dance and enjoy a complete body workout. Studies also show that Zumba has a positive psychological effect as it lowers stress levels and improves body image. This means that you are less likely to skip a Zumba class as compared to a gym session which obviously means that you are more likely to lose weight with Zumba.

How To Get The Most Out Of Your Zumba Class

“Throw yourself into your Zumba class to get your muscles firing and boost your burn”

The simplest thing that you can do to improve your Zumba class is to shift your focus – don’t think of calories and weight loss goals instead, focus on having fun and allow the weight loss to happen when it does. Level changes involve a lot of up and down movements which will get your glutes and thigh muscles firing and boost the number of calories you burn. Dance your heart out and don’t be afraid to go all out with your arm movements – it will boost your burn, so leave your awkwardness at the door!

While Zumba is a very effective fitness option, it is important to have realistic goals. Some people say that Zumba will make you lose 1000 calories an hour but this is just a tall claim! As long as you follow a healthy weight loss diet plan and go for your Zumba classes regularly, you can expect to lose fat and get toned… so put on your dancing shoes!
