8 Strychnine
It’s famous for the painful effects. It is formed using seeds of a dog button plant which is found in tropical areas. It has also been used as a medical drug. Nowadays, it is used in rat poison and pesticides. Some drug dealers use it in heroine to smooth its effects. It attacks the central nervous system causing severe contraction of muscles resulting in death. The contractions are so severe that the victim jack-knifes in the latter stages. Death can occur within 2 to 3 hours of ingestion. It maybe because of the exhaustion due to contractions or paralysis of respiratory system.
In 1800s, a doctor named Thomas Neil Cream killed one man and at least seven women by prescribing them strychnine as a medicine. After spending 10 years in US prison, he returned to England and continued the practice, poisoning his patients.
