Immediately you find yourself in the midst of discussions about how the earth needs immediate attention and how the world is slowly proceeding towards an end. However, within few days everything is forgotten, life goes on the same way and nobody takes a flashback.

Instead of just being a part of such discussions, it is important to make certain lifestyle changes immediately. If you truly care, you must take pledge this World Environment Day to do your bit for the environment. Here are 5 simple things you can do to save the environment.

1.Move closer to office

If car pooling is something you can't opt for, the best thing to do would be to rent a place at a walkable distance from office. You can even cycle to work. And then, look for everything around your house, like school, club and other places. This way you will not only save time and fuel, it will cut down on pollution to a great extent.

2.Contribute money for planting trees

There are many good environmental NGOs that are doing a great job in making the city cleaner and greener. One of their primary agenda is getting volunteers to plant trees. Just contact them and contribute money and you will have a tree in your name. One tree by each one of you will go a long way in turning your city green. However, do your research well and visit them once to see if it actually is done.

3.Opt for the most popular 3Rs

'Reduce-Reuse-Recycle', three 'R's based on which you can decrease carbon footprint of the entire community. Four things you can do are: Instead of keeping your old things in a store room for years and finally throwing them when it surpasses the reusable stage, sell them away instantly, opt for used products whenever possible, recycle your clothes and use instead of wasting and donate whenever possible to anyone you can.

4.Do what people at Navy do

Go in for Navy Shower every morning, a technique followed by the Navy to save water when on ships. You just have to follow three simple steps. First, turn water just to quickly wet your body and hair. Second, turn off water and shampoo or clean. Three, turn water on to rinse. This easy doable technique will save your time and also save up to 15,000 gallons of water per year. You can also go for water efficient showerheads.

5.Turn off lights every time you leave the room

This is the simplest and most doable thing for the environment. Turn off lights while leaving your room. Make this a habit and teach your kids to do the same. Do it even if you are going out of the room for a few minutes. You can also put the curtain off and let sun come in.
