Tips for Success: How to Turn Fear into Motivation

We all suffer from fear. It is that horrible feeling when we are threatened by danger, harm or pain. Quite understandable! Unfortunately, it does neither our bodies or our minds any good, and can actually stop us from pursuing our ambitions. The physical effects of fear such as your heart beating at what seems to be a million miles an hour, with your face plastered with sweat and your stomach flipping upside down can be absolutely miserable, which then makes it even harder to work out the initial cause: fear.

“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fearis that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, ‘Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?’ – Marianne Williamson

The range of phobias out there that people can have is no surprise. According to recent research by Voucherbox, personal failure in particular can be one of the many stressful things we fear. Unemployment and financial loss are quite real, so do not panic if you fear losing all your money and job. It is quite understandable.

Do not worry though! These simple tips can help you overcome your frightful fears and turn them into powerful motivation leading to success and happiness.

1. Do Not Ignore It

Depending on your personality, you may have a habit of ignoring your fears. If you are someone who dreams of success, then acknowledging that you have fears can be hard, especially when it comes to the world of work. A huge number of jobs are overflowing with applicants, making it uneasy not knowing when you will find your first decent income. Job hunting is very stressful and it may take time before you hit the jackpot. However, whilst you are trawling through the job adverts, do not ignore the fact that you are fearing the worst… That you will stay unemployed forever. It is important to stay focused and driven. Make a plan of action, so you know where you want your life to go and stick to it. Do not be afraid to have goals, even if they do not materialise straight away. You might have to apply for several jobs which would not be your first choice, but any experience is better than no experience.

2. Money Mindfulness

Obviously, even if you have managed to reach a successful point in your career, money can be a major concern. You could be earning a substantial amount, but be nervous about investing it for fear of losing it. Knowing what is best for your money in terms of savings, bank accounts and interests can be time-consuming, as you certainly do not want to lose everything you have worked for. This is not something that needs to be feared, though. Talk to people who are experts in this field, such as accountants. Not only is it taking a huge weight off your shoulders, but you will getting the best advice. On the other hand, if you are at the start of the career ladder and afraid you aren’t making enough money, the trick is not to panic. Work out what you really need to spend your money on, and start to budget, even down to each week, to ensure you are not making any extravagant purchases. You will end up with more spare cash than you thought!

3. Personal Life Importance

If all your energy, focus and fear goes into your working life, it may be that you do not have enough happening behind the scenes. A happy personal life is vital before you even think about the career world. The employment world is so stressful, that it is important that you have the right family and friends to support you. This will also help you to realise that success in the workplace is not everything. To be completely successful and happy, you need to have a wide circle of interests and people, which will make your life the exciting and diverse experience it should be.
