The two robbers wielded cleavers.
Two masked, cleaver-wielding Africans - who tried to carry out a robbery in Lulu Hypermarket in Sharjah's Al Falah area in the late hours of Thursday - were nabbed by the Sharjah Police before they could flee the premises.
The two robbers entered the shopping centre during the working hours. They attacked one of the cashiers to loot the cash from the counter. The victim sustained serious injuries while trying to prevent the robbers.
Speaking to KT, Maj Gen Saif Al Zeri Al Shamsi, Commander-in-Chief of Sharjah Police, said that the robbers were arrested in a very short time after the incident, even though they tried to hide their identities by wearing masks. The police, in coordination with security guards, arrested the suspects before they could get out of the premises. There was no loss of lives or property during the operation.
It was due to the prompt action of the police and the cashier that the gang was arrested in no time. The injured cashier was rushed to Al Kuwaiti Hospital, where he is receiving treatment.
The suspects were interrogated and have confessed to their crime. They have been transferred to a specialised police station for more investigation.
