Authorities Recover Body of Missing Indian Sailor Following Attack on Vessel Off Oman Coast

The maritime community is mourning a tragic loss following recent hostilities in the Gulf. Authorities successfully recovered the body of an Indian marine engineer who had been missing since Sunday. The 30-year-old sailor, Heramb Karmarkar from Pune, disappeared after a violent attack on the Cypriot-flagged commercial vessel GFS Galaxy.

A representative from the Forward Seamen's Union of India confirmed the heartbreaking news on Wednesday. The Omani coast guard located the sailor's remains after days of extensive search efforts in the waters off the coast of Oman. The sailor's family in India has also been respectfully notified of the tragic outcome.

The Human Cost of Maritime Conflict

The GFS Galaxy was carrying 11 Indian nationals at the time of the incident. While 10 crew members were safely rescued and evacuated, the loss of one life highlights the profound dangers commercial seafarers currently face.

This incident underscores the absolute necessity of ensuring safe passage for working-class mariners navigating vital global shipping routes. The international community continues to monitor the region, hoping for a swift return to peace and secure navigation for all commercial vessels.
