Oman Launches Visual Communication Center for Hearing Disabilities

Oman launched the "Nafeth" application today. This app is the first visual communication center for people with hearing disabilities. The launch coincides perfectly with Arab Deaf Week. Officials want to promote digital inclusion and facilitate easy service access.

Dr. Abdullah bin Hamoud Al-Harthi sponsored the inauguration ceremony. He serves as the Undersecretary for Persons with Disabilities Affairs.

Removing Communication Barriers

App CEO Sultan Al Ameri delivered an inspiring speech today. He stated the project empowers people with hearing disabilities. The app removes frustrating communication barriers entirely. This technology enhances their independence and active presence in society.

Al Ameri called this step the beginning of a larger phase. His team will redefine the service access experience entirely. They want to make society much more humane and inclusive.

The project responds directly to around 17,000 people with hearing disabilities in Oman. It ensures their equitable access to vital everyday services.

Accessing Live Sign Language Interpreters

Beneficiaries can now communicate directly with government and private entities. The app connects them with live sign language interpreters instantly. The platform also offers a dedicated sign language news portal. Users can even book interpreters for special events easily.

Nafeth extends previous efforts that began with the "SignBook" application in 2018. The platform provides over 8,600 sign language translation services. It currently serves more than 4,500 beneficiaries across the nation. The app cooperates directly with 35 different governmental and private entities.

Expanding Important Services

Organizers signed major agreements with seven governmental and private entities today. Partners include the Ministry of Housing and the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority. Alizz Islamic Bank and the National Center for Statistics also joined.

These partnerships activate the center’s services and expand their daily use. Several people with hearing disabilities presented their successful experiences today. They explained how the program facilitates easy communication with the local community.
