Royal Decree Grants Omani Citizenship to 226 Individuals

Sultan Haitham bin Tariq issued a new royal decree today. He officially granted Omani citizenship to 226 different individuals. The Official Gazette published Royal Decree No. 46/2026 on April 19. The publication listed the names of all newly approved citizens.

Strict Residency and Health Rules

The Omani nationality law sets incredibly strict conditions for applicants. Foreigners must reside legally inside Oman for 15 continuous years. Applicants cannot leave the country for more than 90 days annually.

They must speak Arabic well and maintain excellent personal conduct. The government absolutely requires a perfectly clean criminal record. New citizens must prove excellent health and a stable income. They must also write a formal letter renouncing their original nationality.

Pathways for Spouses and Children

The law offers specific citizenship pathways for married couples. Foreign men married to Omani women can apply after 10 years. These men must share children with their Omani wives.

Foreign women married to Omani men qualify after eight years. Widows can seek citizenship six years after their husband dies. Fathers normally pass Omani citizenship directly to their children. Mothers can also pass citizenship if the father remains absent.

Severe Penalties for Fraud

The legislation also details strict rules for revoking citizenship. The state revokes citizenship if naturalized individuals commit security crimes. People lose their status if they secretly acquire another nationality.

Applicants face severe penalties if they submit forged legal documents. Judges punish fraudsters with up to three years in prison. Courts also fine offenders up to 10,000 Omani riyals.
