89 Filipina domestic workers leave Kuwait

A group of 89 Filipino expatriate housemaids left Kuwait, heading to their home countries.

They travelled back home with the foreign and labour ministers, on a Philippines Airways flight.

The General Directorate for Residence Affairs Major-General Talal Ma’arafi said that the Filipinas were cleared and allowed to leave as they were not wanted in any legal case.

Kuwait and the Philippines yesterday announced that they signed an agreement on overseas employment of domestic workers, ending a diplomatic row over reports of abuse.

Philippine Minister of Foreign Affairs Alan Cayetano and Philippine Labor and Employment Minister Silvestre Bello signed the memorandum of agreement with Kuwaiti Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah.
