Duterte still among most powerful people in Forbes’ list

Forbes Magazine has again hailed President Rodrigo Duterte as one of the most powerful people in the world.

Duterte placed 69th in the magazine’s 2018 list of “The World’s Most Powerful People”, a notch higher than his rank last year (70th place).

The magazine cited the president’s war on drugs and his “raw and vulgar vocabulary” when taking a jab against his critics as the reasons for his inclusion in the list.

Aside from Duterte, the list also includes 74 other names “whose actions mean the most.”

Topping this year’s list is China’s Xi Jinping, who broke the four-year streak of Russian President Vladimir Putin, who placed second this year.

US President Donald Trump, German Chancellor Angela Merkel, and Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos also occupied notable ranks. Pope Francis, philanthropist Bill Gates, Saudi Arabia Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman Al Saud, India’s Narendra Modi, and Google’s Larry Page are also on the list.

The story is set to appear in the magazine’s May issue.
