OFW Vacationing in Philippines Shot Dead By Brother Due to Property Dispute

An overseas Filipino worker was killed after she was shot by her own brother.

Elma Sanchez, of Burgos, Ilocos Sur, succumbed to a gunshot wound in her chest allegedly by her brother Richard Dion. She was found lifeless by her nephew Christopher Daquigan inside her burning house.

Sanchez was spending her vacation in the Philippines when the incident took place.

Dispute over ownership on land and car was cited as one motive of the murder.

According to Senior Inspector Leonilo Ancheta, the siblings have had a misunderstanding due to land and car ownership.

“Since 2016 ‘yung hindi nila pagkakaintindihan sa lupa at sasakyan. Doon nagsimula lalo na nung sinampahan [ni Sanchez] ang suspek ng kasong estafa,” ABS-CBN quoted Ancheta as saying.

Dion reportedly went to Sanchez’s house on Monday afternoon and fired a gun to his sister before setting her house on fire.

Authorities managed to collar Dion, who denied committing the crime. He will face charges of murder, arson, and illegal possession of firearms.
