WATCH: Emirati Vlogger fascinated by the Filipino hero Sultan Kudarat

One of the coincidental yet interesting stops that Emirati Vlogger Khalid Al Ameri made during his short visit to the Philippines was checking out the statue of the Filipino Hero Sultan Kudarat.

Al Ameri was amazed with the history of Sultan Muhammad Kudarat as it tells the story of a Muslim leader in Mindanao who united Filipinos from different districts and successfully defended their territory from the Spanish invasion during the early 17th century. The Spaniards ended up signing a peace treaty with Sultan Kudarat.

Decades after Sultan Kudarat managed to successfully fend off the Spaniards, one of the Socckskargen provinces were named after him, along with the municipality of Sultan Kudarat in Maguindanao. He became a Philippine National Hero under the presidency of Ferdinand Marcos.

“What inspired me a lot about the way they (Filipinos) described him (Sultan Kudarat), is they described him as a Filipino hero who defended Islamic faith as well as the liberty of the Philippines,” explains Al Ameri in his video.

Before he ended the video Al Ameri adds that it’s important to share these kinds of stories to show how people can “come together to defend one thing”. “This should be an inspiration for people around the world to follow,” said Al Ameri.
