Doha criminal court reviewing QR5mn theft case

A Doha Criminal Court has reviewed the case of a young man accused of stealing jewellery, luxury watches, cash and other valuables estimated to be worth QR5mn from a safe in his neighbour's house, local Arabic daily Arrayah reported on Tuesday.

The victim reported to the police the robbery and police investigation led to the defendant, who was outside Qatar after the incident.
An arrest warrant was issued and he was arrested while entering the country through the airport.

Two of the stolen watches were found with him when he was searched upon his arrival, in addition to a sum of QR9,700.

During interrogation, the defendant admitted breaking into the house of his neighbour and stealing many valuable things from his safe.

Then, he travelled abroad and sold some of the jewellery he had grabbed for QR36,000 to pay off some of his debts.

He also told the police the whereabouts of the other stolen things, which the victim later identified.

The case continues at the court.
