The Qatar government officially announced to shut down schools and colleges on March 10 as a preventive measure against coronavirus. Meanwhile with the educational institutes shut down, the Qatar Education Ministry is coming up with new ideas to allow kids and students to be aware of the growing pandemic from home itself.
The Ministry has intensified efforts to implement virtual education in government schools from Sunday,” said Undersecretary of the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, H E Dr Ibrahim Al Nuaimi, while talking to Qatar Radio.
“Video lessons having 10 minutes duration with all necessary information about all subjects for all grades of government schools will be uploaded on daily basis starting from Sunday. About 1,700 recorded video lessons are being produced, which will be uploaded on YouTube from Sunday,” said Al Nuaimi.
Dr Ibrahim said that the management will be putting the education techniques in place and see how it goes. While they will be expecting positive results, they will also monitor the difficulties they face along the way and come up with solutions.
He further said that students from class 1 to 11 will be assessed on a daily to weekly basis starting from March 22 when the schools will be reopened as they will not undergo final exams. He added that students of class 12 will be undergoing their exams in specially designed exam halls.
Meanwhile, he urged the parents and guardians of the students to cooperate with the education ministry in this situation of emergency.
“Private schools which follow different academic calendar, have started implementing virtual education system. All private schools are responding fully and in close contact with the Ministry,” said Al Nuaimi. “We are ready to provide all support to solve any problems they would face in implementing new teaching system.”.
