Drug dealer shoots Saudi mother and teenage son to death

On Wednesday, a wanted drug dealer in Saudi Arabia shot and killed a mother and son who were returning from a supermarket where they had bought groceries in preparation for the holy month of Ramadan.

Both innocent victims died just hours apart from each other after they were fatally shot by their neighbor in Najran, a city in southwestern Saudi Arabia near the border with Yemen.

According to Gulf News, the two victims have been named as Bader, who was 18 years old at the time of his death, and Um Bader, the teenager's mother who was in her 40s.

The police confirmed the tragedy and said that the killer, known for using and dealing with drugs, was wanted for other felonies as well, Gulf News reported.

The duo was reportedly approached by their neighbor on Wednesday evening as they were returning from the local supermarket.

The perpetrator started to threaten Bader with a gun so the mother jumped in front of her son to protect him. Unfortunately, the killer shot them both and fled the scene.

Subsequently, Um Bader died on the spot while Bader, who was hit by eight bullets, was taken to King Khalid Hospital where he died on Saturday morning, a short time after his mother's funeral.

"This was not the first time that he threatened Bader with a gun and he once shot him three times over financial disputes," Abdullah Ashwi, the spokesperson for the Najran Police said, according to Saudi daily Okaz.

Sa'ad Al Qahtani, the brother of Um Bader, told Saudi daily Al Watan that the killer had a grudge against Bader's father after he reported his suspicious activities related to drugs to the police and to his family.

The killer has since been arrested and referred to the local branch of the public prosecution, Najran's police force confirmed.
