Apple’s AirPower Charging Mat could be priced at $199 in the US

In September, Apple launched the 2017-flagship smartphones – iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus and iPhone X with support for wireless charging. It also announced that it would be launching a wireless charging mat called the AirPower. Recently, the AirPower wireless charging mat was spotted on Polish online retailer X-Kom’s website at $270 (Rs 17,400 approximately).

 

As noted by Polish blog ThinkApple, many products that cost 999 Złotych on Apple’s online store in Poland are priced at $199 in the United States, hence hinting at the fact that the AirPower mat could cost $199 in the US market. Apple devices at once, including the iPhone 8, iPhone X, and Apple Watch Series 3 models. Apple also noted that it will also work with Apple’s upcoming wireless AirPods charging case. Currently, iPhone 8 models can be charged by third-party pads, but transfer power is limited.

Last month, Apple acquired PowerbyProxi , a wireless charging company. The firm holds over 300 patents relating to wireless charging and is expected to make the feature “ubiquitous” on all Apple devices. There are anticipations made that wireless charging would soon become an important business in Apple’s global operations.

While Apple’s new accessory is expected to be announced sometime next year, iPhone X is all set to make its India debut on November 3. The phone is available in two storage models, the 64GB version is priced at 89,000, while the 256GB model is available at Rs 102,000.
