Google Search will show results based on your location even after changing the country domain

Google has made a major change in its Google Search section. The 'change' will be blocking users from getting results from different regions. This will stay even if you try to change the country domain (for instance .com, .uk or .au). The search giant however, says that this will bring more localised and useful results to users.

This change will shadow all the platforms - Desktop, web, app and mobile web. Google plans to make this happen by knowing your location. The search results will correspond to your location.

"Today, we've updated the way we label country services on the mobile web, the Google app for iOS, and desktop Search and Maps. Now the choice of country service will no longer be indicated by domain," said Evelyn Kao, product manager, Google.

For instance, if you are in the US, it will show you search results from the US. This won't change if you try to make a Google search from google.co.uk or google.co.au. Similarly, if you come back to your native country, the results will be shown from that region and not from anywhere else.

However, there is a workaround.

Google says that if for some reason you are getting results from a different country service, it is possible to change the country service under the Google Search settings page. At the bottom of the search page you can also see the country service currently being used.

"It's important to note that while this update will change the way Google Search and Maps services are labelled, it won't affect the way these products work, nor will it change how we handle obligations under national law. This update will help ensure that you get the most relevant results based on your location and is consistent with how Google already manages our services across a number of our other platforms, including YouTube, Blogger, Google Earth and Gmail, among others," said Kao.
