If you haven’t had the pleasure of witnessing live opera yet, but intend on going, you’ll be lucky to watch Madam Butterfly as your first.

Set in 1890, against the oriental background of Japan, this is the story of a very young geisha who is arranged to be married to an American Naval Officer. Out of commitment and excitement, the beautiful geisha does all she can to be a good wife and even changes her religion for him. He leaves shortly after their wedding, and she waits patiently for his return. 

Her love is strong and unwavering, and nobody can convince her to move on even years after he has not returned. When she get news of his return, she is overjoyed, but little does she know how things have changed, and neither does he.
