Etihad Rail to launch passenger train network on Sept 30; first phase set for June 30

Etihad Rail has announced that the first phase of its long-awaited passenger train services will begin on June 30, 2026, connecting Abu Dhabi and Fujairah. The UAE's national passenger rail network will be officially launched on September 30, 2026, marking a major milestone in the country's transportation infrastructure development.


The announcement was made during the inauguration of the new passenger train station in Mohammed bin Zayed City, Abu Dhabi, by Sheikh Khalid bin Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Executive Council.


Abu Dhabi to Fujairah Service Begins June 30


The initial passenger train service will operate between Abu Dhabi and Fujairah, offering a journey time of just 1 hour and 45 minutes. Additional stations across the UAE will be introduced in phases over the coming months.


Expansion Timeline


Abu Dhabi–Fujairah service begins on June 30, 2026.
Dubai and Al Dhaid stations open on September 30, 2026.
Al Dhafra region stations launch on December 30, 2026.
Sharjah station becomes the final destination on March 30, 2027.


New Abu Dhabi Passenger Station Inaugurated


Sheikh Khalid officially inaugurated the new Abu Dhabi passenger station and reviewed its advanced facilities, smart technologies, information management systems, and operational readiness plans.


The station has been designed to provide a seamless travel experience, featuring modern infrastructure, efficient passenger movement systems, and future expansion capabilities to accommodate growing demand.

• Retail outlets and international brands.
• Onboard dining services.
• Smart travel and passenger information systems.
• Comfortable waiting and boarding facilities.


Ticket Sales Begin on June 23


Passengers will be able to book tickets through the Etihad Rail website and mobile application starting June 23, 2026.


Ticket prices for the Abu Dhabi–Fujairah route have been announced as:
• Comfort Class: Starting from AED 55.
• Premium Class: Starting from AED 120.


The service will initially operate with a fleet of 13 trains, each capable of carrying up to 400 passengers.

The passenger rail project forms a key part of the UAE's National Railway Program and was introduced under the country's ambitious "Projects of the 50" initiative announced in 2021.


Sheikh Khalid highlighted that the project reflects the UAE's commitment to building an integrated transportation network that strengthens connectivity between emirates, supports economic growth, and creates new opportunities for tourism, investment, and urban development.
