Two Texas children die after being electrocuted by downed power line

Two Texas boys died Wednesday after they were electrocuted by a downed power line during a severe storm, fire officials said.

The children, ages 11 and 12, died in a heavily wooded area near Oakland Lake Park when they ran across a downed power line, a Fort Worth fire official said.

A witness told Fox 4 News that the two children were brothers.

A 15-year-old boy who was playing soccer at a nearby park told the station his friends noticed smoking coming from the woods. He went to find the source and found the boys. He immediately called the authorities.

Severe thunderstorms, some that included tornadoes, hit north Texas and Oklahoma on Tuesday. Oncor, the local electric utility in Fort Worth, reported damage to its system after the storms went through, including in the Oakland Lake Park area.

Firefighters assume the downed power line was related to the storm.
