Shah Rukh Khan Recalls A Meaningful Childhood Visit To Ajmer Sharif

Long before Shah Rukh Khan became a Bollywood icon, he experienced a special moment. He visited the beautiful Ajmer Sharif shrine with his ailing mother to offer prayers. During this childhood visit, he lost a significant amount of money in the crowd. A local fakir then offered him a very unexpected and fascinating prediction about his future. Shah Rukh shared this touching story during the 2014 promotions for Happy New Year.

Losing Money But Finding A Blessing

He recalled how his mother gave him Rs 5,000 to keep safe during their trip. They were carrying a traditional chadar to respectfully offer at the sacred shrine. His mother was feeling quite unwell, and they travelled there to pray for her health. At some point during the busy visit, Shah Rukh realized the money was completely gone. He began frantically searching the area for the missing cash.

A fakir at the dargah noticed his distress and kindly asked what was wrong. When Shah Rukh explained his situation, the man correctly guessed the exact amount lost. The actor recalled the fakir telling him that visitors never leave the shrine empty-handed. The man predicted that while Shah Rukh lost Rs 5,000, he would eventually earn Rs 500 crore. Shah Rukh admitted he does not always believe in such mystical predictions.

A Legacy Of Hard Work And Respect

However, he noted that this specific childhood incident stayed with him for decades. He feels very grateful to have the continued blessings of Ajmer Sharif upon him. The actor stressed that the story is not really about the wealth he eventually accumulated. He values the fame and good fortune he has earned throughout his long career. The visit remains special because he went there seeking prayers for his beloved mother.

Ajmer Sharif Dargah is the highly revered shrine of Sufi saint Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti. It stands proudly as one of India’s most prominent and peaceful pilgrimage sites. People from many different faiths visit the shrine daily to offer heartfelt prayers. Shah Rukh has visited the shrine several times over his successful career. He often pays his respects ahead of major film releases.

His mother sadly passed away in 1991, shortly before his Bollywood career truly began. He frequently speaks fondly of her memory during public interviews and appearances. He hopes she would be proud of the career he built.
