Jailer 2 Falls Short of Its Bigger Box Office Target
Superstar Rajinikanth's Jailer 2 has achieved remarkable success at the worldwide box office, but industry experts believe the film could have earned considerably more. Veteran distributor and financier Tiruppur Subramaniam suggested that the movie had the potential to collect between ₹1,200 crore and ₹1,300 crore globally. Despite crossing the ₹800 crore milestone, the sequel missed an opportunity to reach an even bigger commercial landmark. Its theatrical performance has attracted attention across the Indian film industry. The discussion has also highlighted how release strategies can influence a movie's overall earnings.
Limited Early Morning Shows Affected Collections
According to Subramaniam, the absence of early morning screenings and special fan shows affected the film's opening-day business. He explained that nearly 90 per cent of locations did not offer dedicated fan screenings. Regular shows reportedly started only after 9 am in several places. These restrictions are estimated to have cost the film approximately ₹5–6 crore in gross revenue on its first day. Earlier blockbusters such as 2.0 and Leo benefited from screening arrangements that were not available to Jailer 2.
Ticket Pricing Played an Important Role
Another major factor highlighted by the distributor was the absence of flexible ticket pricing. He believes that allowing theatres to adjust ticket prices could have significantly increased the film's overall earnings. According to his assessment, the sequel might have reached the ₹1,200–1,300 crore range with better pricing opportunities. Screening schedules and ticket prices can make a considerable difference, particularly for highly anticipated films featuring major stars. These factors demonstrate that box office success depends on more than audience interest alone.
Rajinikanth's Stardom Remains a Major Attraction
Despite the missed opportunity, Jailer 2 has established a major milestone in Tamil cinema by becoming its highest-grossing film worldwide. Subramaniam also praised Rajinikanth for allowing supporting actors to receive attention rather than relying entirely on his superstar image. Directed by Nelson Dilipkumar, the sequel combines action and comedy while bringing back the popular character of Muthuvel Pandian. Its strong theatrical performance reflects Rajinikanth's continuing popularity among audiences. The film's box office journey also highlights the importance of distribution decisions in determining a blockbuster's full commercial potential.
