Jio Platforms Shares Surge 21% on Debut Despite Falling Indian Markets

Jio Platforms Makes a Strong Market Debut

Jio Platforms made an impressive entry into the Indian stock market on October 28, 2026, with its shares opening at Rs 1,358 on the NSE and BSE. The listing price represented a 21.36% premium over the initial public offering (IPO) price of Rs 1,119, giving early investors a significant opening gain. The debut valued the telecommunications and digital services company at approximately Rs 12.6 lakh crore. The milestone placed Jio Platforms among India’s most valuable listed businesses.

Ambani Family Celebrates the Listing Milestone

The stock market debut was marked by an opening bell ceremony attended by Mukesh Ambani and members of his family. Akash Ambani thanked investors for their strong response to the public offering, which was fully subscribed within around 95 minutes. Isha Ambani described the occasion as the beginning of a new chapter rather than an endpoint. Anant Ambani also shared an emotional message during the ceremony, highlighting the personal significance of the milestone for the family.

Brokerages Share Their Outlook on Jio Shares

The company’s strong debut attracted attention from market analysts and investors assessing its future potential. Nomura initiated coverage with a Buy rating and a target price of Rs 1,340, while Elara Capital set a target of Rs 1,367 with a similar recommendation. These assessments reflect expectations surrounding Jio’s established telecom business and its broader digital ambitions. However, target prices represent analysts’ estimates and do not guarantee future share performance.

Market Weakness Continues as Oil Prices Rise

Jio Platforms’ positive listing came against a difficult backdrop for the wider Indian stock market, with the Sensex and Nifty each declining by nearly 1%. Rising crude oil prices and concerns about escalating tensions in the Middle East weighed on investor sentiment. Oil climbed to approximately $115.70 per barrel following reports of an attack on a Saudi Arabian refinery, while the Nifty IT index fell by more than 3%. The contrasting performances highlighted how company-specific investor demand can remain strong even when broader market conditions are uncertain.
