Qatar make Asian Cup history as Hatem strikes

World Cup 2022 hosts Qatar left a mark on the world in Abu Dhabi on Friday as they raged into the semi-finals of Asian Cup 2019, stunning pre-competition top picks South Korea with 1-0 drubbing.

The match-victor for Qatar came through Abdulaziz Hatim with a staggering late strike which upset star striker Son Heung-min's team.

Congrats poured in for the team not long after the Al Annabi staggered the Koreans.

"Congrats to our national group for this striking accomplishment and its climb to the semi-finals of the competition. Wishing our saints to proceed with this series of wins and extraordinary execution until the finish of the competition," the Amir HH Sheik Tamim bin Hamad al Thani said in a tweet.

In a tweet, Prime Minister and Minister of Interior HE Sheik Abdullah bin Nasser container Khalifa al Thani stated, "We praise our national group on its remarkable triumph, meeting all requirements out of the blue for the elimination rounds. We wish achievement in the following match and in the last."

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs HE Sheik Mohammed bin Abdulrahman al Thani stated, "We salute our national group on the exceptional execution and fitting the bill for semi-finals in the competition. We wish more accomplishments."

Qatar Olympic Committee President HE Sheik Joaan bin Hamad al Thani stated, "Qatar revamps the history with the remarkable rising to the semi-finals of the Asian Cup to the detriment of the South Korean group. Aggregate play, battle soul and expert execution. Things blended with national estimation and the soul of insubordination to compose another part in this Qatari football history today around evening time," Sheik Joaan said in a tweet.

"Congrats to Al-Annabi for the merited success against South Korea. What's more, a tribute to every one of the players and the specialized and regulatory group on this accomplishment," HE Sheik Thani bin Hamad al Thani said in a tweet.

Qatar will currently meet the UAE in the semi-finals on Tuesday (January 29).
