Watermelon is one of the best summer foods because of its high water content – 92 percent! In addition to being a great source of hydration, watermelon juice is also packed with essential nutrients like vitamin A, vitamin C, and thiamine, which you won’t get from drinking regular water. The juice is also loaded with antioxidants like lycopene and beta-carotene that are known to restrict free radical damage associated with aging.
5. Buttermilk
Buttermilk, better known to most of us as chaas, is another healthy drink that will give you a lot more than hydration. The drink is believed to help lower cholesterol levels and it also provides quick relief from digestive ailments and acidity. Its high calcium content means that just 1 glass a day would give you 28 percent of your daily requirement, thereby protecting against bone degeneration. Vitamin B12 and riboflavin in buttermilk helps activate enzymes to drive energy production, while also supporting liver function.
While these beverages are great alternatives to water, they are not meant to be consumed as a substitute. Make sure to drink plenty of water each day, using water drinking app reminders if you must, and use these beverages to boost fluid and nutritional intake.
