Heavy Rain Hits Shees and Wadi Al Helo
Heavy rainfall affected Shees and Wadi Al Helo in Sharjah on Wednesday, October 28, prompting the UAE’s National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) to issue a flash flood alert. The warning covered selected mountainous areas from 3pm to 8pm. Residents and motorists were advised to remain cautious as sudden downpours can cause water levels to rise quickly. Rain also reduced visibility on some roads, creating additional challenges for drivers travelling through the affected areas.
Flash Flood Alert Covers Mountainous Areas
The weather warning highlighted the risk of rapid flooding in valleys and other low-lying locations. Mountainous areas can be particularly vulnerable when heavy rainwater flows downhill and gathers in wadis. The NCM urged the public to stay away from places prone to flash floods while the alert remained active. Residents were also encouraged to monitor official weather updates, as conditions can change rapidly during periods of unstable weather.
More Rain Forecast Across the UAE
The unsettled conditions are expected to bring further chances of rainfall to northern and eastern parts of the UAE. Winds may reach speeds of 50 kilometres per hour around cloud formations, potentially lifting dust and reducing visibility. The latest alert follows heavy rain and hail in parts of Fujairah and Ras Al Khaimah on Tuesday. Shawka recorded 21.2 millimetres of rainfall, according to the NCM, highlighting the intensity of recent weather activity in the region.
Safety Advice for Residents and Motorists
Authorities have urged motorists to reduce speed, maintain a safe distance from other vehicles and take extra care on wet roads. Drivers should never attempt to cross flooded roads or wadis, where water levels can rise without warning. Residents should avoid mountain valleys and other flood-prone locations during heavy rainfall. With further showers possible later in the week, checking official weather advisories before travelling can help people make safer decisions.
