Many people wear orthodontic braces to properly align and straighten teeth, improving their overall dental health. But after a study by a team of researchers from the University of Buenos Aires have found out that there are certain side effects when it comes to wearing braces in the long term.
Such is the case with a 31-year old patient who was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma, a tumor that developed in his jaw after experiencing pain in his deformed teeth caused by metal compounds.
Shockingly, they discovered that the compounds came from the manufacturing of dental braces that led to the tumor accompanied with severe mouth pain.
Experts at the university are still conducting research in this regard to properly figure out the exact cause why dental braces can cause more harm than good. They suggest avoiding wearing braces in the long term to prevent the exposure of metal compounds in the mouth that could lead to complications.
It's vital to wear braces to correct misaligned teeth and improve dental health, but be aware that there are certain risks associated with it as well.
