We all have had moments when we fell prey to negative thoughts in our head. It all begins with just a thought or a feeling, but it can eventually drag you down. When negativity crawls inside of you, it can destroy the world around you. It is toxic and can hold you back from living the life that you want to. You completely zone out from the present moment. That's because negative thoughts tend to drain your energy, and the more you give in to them, the more they drag you down. We have all been there - it's like a continuous cycle of pain and depressing thoughts that keeps getting bigger. That sinking feeling is something that I've experienced many times throughout my life, and it kept me from enjoying the moment I was in. Before things began to go downhill, I lived life my way, accustomed to a place, comfortable with my routines with cooking, cleaning, and others. However, every time I stepped out of my comfort zone, I encountered thoughts and vibes that were negative, and they turned into a wholly bad experience. To work on this, I started practicing a few things that helped me cope with this issue. Here are some tips that let me overcome my negative thoughts.
Recognize Negative Thoughts
Firstly, you need to identify the pattern of negative thoughts. These thoughts are depressing, repetitive, and often unproductive. They have no purpose and only build up in your mind and stagnate. But when you learn to recognize and identify these negative thought patterns, you will be able to control how you react to them. While some negative thoughts revolve around criticism and self-harm, others are mostly related to anxiousness and worry about insignificant things. You tend to be too harsh on yourself by focusing on your weaknesses, which results in low self-esteem. Negative thoughts also arise when you are facing problems and build up guilt and regret. If you do not recognize these patterns, you will remain trapped in negativity. Once you recognize a particular pattern, you will become more aware of your thoughts.
Don't Pay Too Much Heed To What People May Think Or Say
It's easy to fall prey to negative thoughts when your mind is constantly revolving around other people. You may worry too much about what others think or say about you. You end up using all your energy to trap yourself in an analysis paralysis. You need to understand that people don't bother as much as you think they do. Trust me, I was like that once - for everything I would do or not do, I would spend way too much time wondering what others might think of me. But honestly, people don't have so much time, attention, or energy to think or talk about what you do. So, stop worrying about others and concentrate on yourself. This way, you can free your mind from constraints.
Indulge In Relaxing Activities
When you have nothing better to do, your mind tends to wander around negative thoughts. So, spare some time to do activities that help rejuvenate your body and mind. You could attend a yoga class or meditate every morning. This keeps your mind relaxed and helps reduce stress. Meditating clears your mind of negative energy, and it teaches you to be mindful of the present moment. Negative thoughts can drive in from the past or future, but yoga transforms your vision. It doesn't make you look back in anger or forward in fear, but look around in awareness. Another way to shun away any negativity is by doing some mild exercises or workouts. You could just go for a morning walk or run - it helps a lot by releasing inner tensions and worries and letting your mind focus.
Don't Let Complications And Vague Fears Drag You Down
Why do we often complicate every simple thing? It only makes the situation all that scary. To stop a small negative thought from becoming a monster in your head, confront it before it's too late. It tends to make you scared to take a closer look, and you end up choosing the escape route instead. It's natural to be fearful of something you are uncertain about. But is it that scary or are you simply building it up in your head? These vague fears appear scarier than they are because of the negative energy you have associated them with. Do things in a more simple and organized manner, and you will gain more clarity about any situation. Fear will not block your path anymore. The worst part of negativity is fear, and it can stop you from taking a step ahead. But once you tackle that fear, you will be more confident and positive about any situation.
