How To Make Yourself Work When You Are Too Lazy

Sometimes we get lazy, and other times we just procrastinate. But life doesn't work that way. There will be deadlines, chores. errands, and exams that we have to deal with, even though we don't always want to. So, how do you accomplish these tasks when you 'don't feel like doing it'? Here are 5 simple steps for the laziest souls out there to get things done:

1.Ask why

'Why' is a very powerful word. We have written before on how to solve any problem effectively by asking 'why'five times. Similarly, if you don't feel like doing a task, then ask yourself two 'why' questions:

Why is it important that you do the particular task?

Why don't you feel like doing the task?

If you have no rational answer to the first question, then there is no point of proceeding further. On the other hand, if the answer to the first question is strong and compelling, then you must devote few minutes to figure out why you are finding it hard to do the task? Is it because you are too overwhelmed? Or you don't trust your capability to achieve the desired result? Answering these two questions are crucial.

 

2.Turn off distractions

Now that you have realized how important it is for you to accomplish this task, it's time to get it done. Turn off, or keep your phone away in a different room. If you are on a computer, go offline if possible. Additionally, get a bottle of water and some snacks, so that you won't be leaving your workspace to get them in the middle of work.

And most importantly, avoid direct human distractions. If you are at home, tell your family and friends not to disturb you. If you are at work, find an empty conference room for doing your work. In case that is not possible, have a pair of ear plugs or headphones plugged with you.
