The event: my cousin's wedding in Key West, Florida. The challenge: for once, pack lightly and efficiently (and attempt to keep my hair in check in the humidity, but that's a separate story). With a bit of planning, I whittled my closet down and created three entire outfits with a capsule wardrobe of eight pieces.
I used to have a travel motto: If you don't have to sit on your suitcase to zip it up, you haven't packed enough. But this time around, I tried my best to pack smartly and only choose versatile pieces.
For example, I chose shoes that I could wear to both the rehearsal dinner and the wedding, killing two birds with one stone. And since the ceremony was in a tropical destination, I didn't even bother with an evening clutch—I just brought the same straw bag I carried for sightseeing. With the addition of a few dresses, some casual slides, a wide-brim hat, and sunglasses, I had everything I needed—with plenty of leftover room in my carry-on.
