Tips For A Great First Impression

According to various studies, it takes less than a 10th of a second to make a first impression. Basically, from the word go, as soon as the other person lays eyes on you, you’re being judged. Don’t worry, we have curated a list of things that you should be mindful of and you’re on your way to making a great impression.

Body Language
Simple things matter, like smiling, good posture, standing straight, firm handshake, etc. Be careful of your body language, sometimes it speaks more than you know. Maintaining eye-contact shows confidence, and sitting straight while talking makes a huge impact as well. Maintaining a consistent pitch while talking shows that you’re not nervous. Sound firm but polite.

The Right Introduction
A firm handshake or a polite smile makes a good first impression, along with a crisp and well-articulated introduction of oneself. No matter the occasion or the situation, it’s good to break the ice with someone right at the beginning of a meeting. Connect with the person and be authentic at the start to get along on the right foot.

Listen As Much As You Talk
It’s important to know that listening is just as important as talking. Make a good impression b y making the other person feel respected. Listen to what they say and contribute positively and constructively wherever appropriate.

Put The Phone Away
It is considered very rude if one attends to a call or replies to messages constantly during a meeting. Make a polite gesture by putting your phone on silent and be fully attentive during the meeting. Showing that you are interested in what the other has to say goes a long way in making a good first impression.

Look Presentable
It is obvious that the first thing a person notices about the other is how they appear at first. So dressing well and looking neat will definitely not go unnoticed, in fact, it may even be the deciding factor.
