6.Slim Family

The Slim family is headed by Carlos Slim Helú. He is a business magnet, philanthropist and investor from Mexico. He was the richest person of the world from 2010-2013. The net worth of the family is estimated to be $77.1 billion.

Carlos always wanted to be a businessman and started taking lessons relating to business from his father. He started with investing in government bonds and purchased shares of a Mexican bank. After graduation, he started his career as stock trader and soon began his own company called Inversora Bursátil. Along with that, he started the work of Grupo Carso. His companies were into soft drinks, real estate, construction, mining and bottling industries and later also ventured in to auto parts, airlines, aluminum, chemicals, tires cement etc. He made most of his investments when the markets were down. He has 6 children and most of the shares bought by him are either for himself or his kids. His 3 sons are actively involved in his business and hold important positions in companies owned by Carlos. Carlos is CEO and chairman of Telmex, Samsung Mexico, Grupo Carso and América Móvil.
