Qatar urges UNHRC to stop blockading countries’ forceful measures

Qatar has once again stressed the need to urgently end the human rights violations caused by the illegal blockade imposed on the country.

The appeal came during a speech delivered by His Excellency the Permanent Representative of Qatar to the United Nations Office in Geneva Ali Khalfan Al Mansouri at the Human Rights Council's 41st session.

HE Al Mansouri called on the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) and The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights to use their authorities in holding the siege countries responsible for the discriminatory practices they have been carrying out against Qatar for over two years now.

Drawing attention to the suffering of hundreds of Qatari families, students, and citizens who have borne the brunt of the crisis, HE Al Mansouri urged the UN council to take decisive and immediate action.

As a consequence of the crisis, many Qataris have been subjected to human rights violations and continue to live through the ordeal of living apart from loved ones, in addition to not being able to complete their education in the siege countries.

The ambassador further said that Qatar has always stood its ground against violence and called for dialogue and peaceful solutions to various crises across the region and the world.

He further underscored the responsibility of the Council and all governments to make efforts in fighting hate speech against immigrants, foreigners and minorities, especially Muslims.

While speaking about other issues in the region, HE Al Mansouri also called on the international community to shoulder its responsibility in protecting the Palestinian people and to restore their legitimate rights.

Qatar is committed to support and work alongside the Office of the High Commissioner to fulfill its mandate as best as possible, he concluded.
