The Institute for Economics and Peace recently released its 2017 Global Terrorism Index, noting that there were 22 percent fewer deaths as a result of terror attacks in the period spanning between 2000 and 2016.
However, there was a spike in attacks in developed countries, a 67 percent increase to be exact.
The index is a comprehensive study analyzing the "impact of terrorism for 163 countries and which covers 99.7 per cent of the world’s population," the report states.
Still, developing countries, particularly a few Arab countries, ranked in the top 20 with high terror attack rates.
Iraq, Syria, Yemen, Somalia, Libya, Egypt, South Sudan and Sudan are in the Top 20
The report summarizes trends in terrorism over the years covering the period between 2000 till 2016.
As for 2017, Arab countries in the top 20 have experienced numerous terror attacks so far.
