Abandoned OFW At Riyadh Airport To Return Home in Pagadian City

A Filipina worker who was believed to have mental illness and was seen on a viral video abandoned at the airport in Riyadh has arrived in Manila and, with the help of an air transport officer, is set to return to her hometown in Pagadian City.

The woman, identified as Karsoma Utobara, arrived on her own at Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 1 on Monday afternoon.

According to an ABS-CBN News report, Utobara had been roaming around the airport complex for more than four hours with no definite destination and did not give details as to her identity or other information.

This caught the attentin of Airport Transport Liason Officer Suzette Nueva who said she was about to finish her tour of duty when she noticed the passenger alone in the arrival area.

Nueva said Utobara kept following her, which prompted her to offer a meal to the woman. Upon consuming her meal, the OFW then revealed clues about her identity and information about her family, who were notified at once. Utobara’s relatives then rushed to the airport and said she hails from Pagadian City, Zamboanga del Sur. They learned that she had departed the country to work as a migrant worker in Kuwait.

Nueva decided to purchase an airline ticket to Pagadian City for the OFW, who is scheduled to depart for Pagadian City, Wednesday morning to finally be reunited with her parents.

“Kalinga po ng pamilya ang makakatulong para po maibalik sa normal ang buhay niya kaya po ginawa ko ang lahat para maktulong sa kababayan natin,” Nueva said.

In a conversation with the woman’s relatives, Nueva learned about the OFW’s viral video that showed her abandoned in wheelchair at the Riyadh airport.

Airport General Manager Ed Monreal thanked Nueva for helping the distressed OFW.
