Muscat hotel manager bags top award

After moving to Oman two years ago as General Manager of the Muscat Holiday Inn Al Seeb, Laura Eggleton has made headlines in the world of hospitality by winning the InterContinental Hotel Groups (IHG) GM of the year award.

“I am absolutely delighted. This has to be the most significant achievement of my whole career and I certainly did not expect this. I feel so fortunate to work in this beautiful city, and be surrounded by such a great host nation, and to receive such a prestigious award during my tenure here is so rewarding”. Laura said.

This personal accomplishment comes after years of hard work and determination. Laura started her career working part time in a hotel when she was younger and continued throughout her studies. After receiving her degree in International Tourism Management, Laura set off for bigger endeavors.

With 13 years of hospitality experience and 8 years at IHG, it comes to no suprize as to why Laura was recognized.

“I live with the expression, ‘people will forget what you’ve said, but they will never forget how you’ve made them feel’ and I truly believe it. I relate to it every day whether it be with my team, or the hotel guests. My job is to make people feel special and appreciated, and in turn when they do the success follows,” Laura said.

This is her first personal award, but has won two others. Laura won Hotel of the Year for EMEA (Europe, Middle East & Africa) in 2009, and the Quality Excellence Award for Europe in 2013.

InterContinental Hotels Group is one the largest hotel companies in the region of India, Middle East and Africa. IHG operates six hotels in Oman, and are due to open the new Crowne Plaza OCEC (Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre) later this year.

“For those who want to work in the hospitality sector, I strongly believe you have the world at your feet. It’s the future of Oman and there are really good opportunities, especially within organizations like IHG. I would encourage anybody to join such an amazing organization, not just in Oman but throughout the world. If you have a passion for people and enjoy meeting new people every day, and like the fast pace environment of a hotel, it’s a perfect career choice.” She said.
