MME holds volunteering meeting to contain COVID-19

The Ministry of Municipality and Environment (MME) has announced launching a nationwide campaign in all municipalities starting from today with the participation of a number of volunteers to clean and disinfect the various vital areas of the country.

The Ministry also said that it will intensify health monitoring campaigns on food establishments as part of the State’s efforts to curb the spread of the coronavirus.

 

This came during a meeting organised by the MME yesterday to introduce a campaign to support volunteering work at the MME within the preventive and precautionary measures taken by the state to limit the spread of COVID-19. 

The volunteers were introduced to the volunteering initiative launched by the MME as part of the State’s efforts to curb the spread of coronavirus, said the Ministry in a release issued yesterday.

Over 30 volunteers from different age groups will participate in the campaign, who will be distributed in work teams covering all the important areas and facilities targeted by the campaign in the various municipalities.

The meeting was attended by Chairman of the Voluntary Action Initiative Support Committee at the MME, Mohamed Ahmed Al Sayed; Director of Public Relations Department, Nasser Abdurrahman Al Sarami; Head of the Health Control Department of Al Rayyan Municipality, Majid Burhan Al Zaidan; Legal Advisor at the office of H E Minister of Municipality and Environment, Ahmed Abu Mustafa, and a number of volunteers.

Addressing the meeting, Mohamed Ahmed Al Sayed, said that the volunteering work by individuals is a noble value that exists in society in different forms of social work.

He also highlighted a number instructions that volunteers must follow during work, the most important of which is the necessity of not exposing the volunteer himself to danger and withdraw immediately when feeling at risk, and continuous communication with the volunteer work support team in the Ministry and avoiding gatherings as much as possible.

He also stressed the importance of adhering to the means of personal protection for volunteers during work by wearing masks, full clothing, head cover and hand sterilisation before starting work.

Majid Burhan Al Zaidan spoke about the mechanism and work plan during the inspection of food establishments and gave a detailed explanation of the work procedures during the supervision of restaurants and consumer complexes.

He added that during the inspection, the inspectors focused on cleanliness of food establishments, personal hygiene and safety of workers, foodstuff, method of storing them, preparing them and displaying them in an appropriate manner in healthy conditions.

Nasser Abdul Rahman Al Sarami thanked the volunteers for their keenness to work hand in hand with the work teams of the Ministry in providing services to the public in the field of health control and public cleanliness.

He said that this came within the concerted governmental and community efforts to serve and protect the country in light of the current challenges and the measures taken to reduce the spread of the coronavirus.
