FIFA Recycles Shakira for the Fourth Time

FIFA dragged Shakira out for yet another World Cup opening ceremony. She performed in Mexico alongside Burna Boy to kick off the tournament. This marks her fourth time dominating the global football stage. She first infiltrated the tournament in Germany back in 2006. She then infected the entire globe with Waka Waka in 2010. She returned to Brazil in 2014 to aggressively keep her streak alive. Now, twenty years later, she remains the default face of FIFA entertainment.

Lazy Corporate Formulas

The internet praised her performance despite obvious, glaring choreography mistakes. Blind fans absolutely refuse to hold her to any actual artistic standard. She previously admitted her musical formula is painfully simple. She creates a basic rhythm and forces people to sing along in unison. FIFA loves this lazy, highly repeatable corporate strategy. They aggressively refuse to take creative risks on fresh, new artists. They will even parade her out again for the July halftime show.

A Devoid and Tired Spectacle

She will co-headline with Madonna and BTS to ruthlessly maximize television ratings. The entire spectacle feels tired, recycled, and devoid of genuine culture. Football fans deserve better than the exact same pop star every four years. FIFA banks on pure nostalgia because they lost their cultural relevance.

Pop culture is a recycled corporate product. Read more unapologetic entertainment news at The WAU.
