With last week's news that AOL Instant Messenger will be shutting down for good later this year , Internet denizens of a certain age found ourselves getting a touch sentimental. After all, AIM was the premiere (and only?) messaging platform of choice in the late 90s through mid-aughts, the perfect place for teens and tweens to stalk crushes, put up ~*~dramatic~*~ statuses, experiment with signature fonts and colors (Comic Sans in hot pink with a baby blue background, thankyouverymuch ), toy with older pervs in sketchy chatrooms (A/S/L?), dissect the day's LiveJournal drama in real time, and so much more
My first AIM name was MrCelloFan because I was 11, obsessed with Chicago, and couldn't spell. #RIPAIM

Warning your buddy into oblivion so that he couldn’t chat anymore was the original internet trolling. #RIPAIM

So tell us, what are your best (or worst) memories of AIM? More specifically:
What was your screen name?
What song lyrics were your go-to away message?
Did you prefer trolling chat rooms, or hassling the SmarterChild study bot?
Have you gone in and downloaded your old chat history since the announcement last week?
Let us know in the comments as we memorialize an old pal from an earlier digital era.
