A Traveller Guide To Riding Etihad Rail From Dubai

Etihad Rail's Dubai station is nearing readiness ahead of its September 30, 2026 opening. For travellers planning their first trip, here is what actually matters. Fares, travel times, and onboard comfort all shape the experience.

How Long Will The Journey Take

Etihad Rail trains reach speeds of up to 200 km/h on standard routes. Once the Dubai station opens, an Abu Dhabi to Dubai trip should take about 57 minutes. That beats most road journeys between the two cities.

The current Abu Dhabi to Fujairah service takes 1 hour and 45 minutes. Driving that same route usually takes more than two hours. A future high speed rail line will push speeds up to 350 km/h between Abu Dhabi and Dubai. That project could cut the journey to roughly 30 minutes, though it remains a separate service expected by 2030.

What A Ticket Will Cost

On the Abu Dhabi to Fujairah route, Comfort Class fares start at AED 55. Premium Class starts at AED 120 for the same trip. Fares for the Dubai route have not been announced yet. Etihad Rail plans to release Dubai pricing closer to the September 30 launch date.

Travellers can book tickets directly through the Etihad Rail app or website. Both platforms will update once new routes go live.

What Riders Can Expect Onboard

Each train can carry up to 400 passengers per trip. Cabins come fitted with Wi-Fi and individual power outlets at every seat. Seating is designed with longer inter emirate journeys in mind. Onboard food and beverage options are also available throughout the ride.

What Stations Will Offer Beyond The Platform

Etihad Rail stations are being built with more than just ticket counters. Expect cafés, restaurants, and retail outlets inside major stations. Several international brands are set to operate within these spaces. Stations will also connect seamlessly to metros, buses, and taxis for onward travel.

The Dubai station itself sits in Jumeirah Golf Estates in the city's southern area. It is designed to eventually link with the Dubai Metro Red Line and the future Gold Line.

Planning Ahead For The Full Network

Dubai's station opens on September 30, 2026, alongside Al Dhaid station in Sharjah. Abu Dhabi's Al Dhafra region stations follow on December 30, 2026. The full initial route completes once Sharjah Train Station opens on March 30, 2027.

For now, travellers can already ride the introductory Abu Dhabi to Fujairah service, which launched June 30, 2026. As more stations open, ticket options and route choices will expand steadily across the UAE.
