A woman was sentenced to three months in jail in Ras Al Khaimah after spying on her husband's mobile phone and transferring its contents to her device.
According to Khaleej times, Husband filed a complaint with the police when he found out that his wife would access his phone while he sleeps and gets copies of his pictures and conversations with other people.
She would then transfer pictures and chats to her phone and mockingly show her siblings.
Police called the woman in for questioning and referred her to the court.
She said that her husband has allowed her to go through his phone and even gave her his password after she previously caught him chatting with other women before.
Despite her story, the court ruling still sentenced her to three months of imprisonment.
According to the UAE privacy law, it is illegal to breach one’s privacy by going through his or her phone without permission.
Those who will be caught using technology to invade someone else’s privacy can be sentenced to up to six months in jail and face fines ranging from Dh150,000 and Dh300,000.
