A Narrowly Avoided Tragedy
US authorities charged an 18-year-old man with plotting a horrific mass shooting. The suspect allegedly planned to attack a shopping mall in Minnesota. He wanted to execute the brutal violence in support of the Daesh group. The FBI arrested Sheikhdoon Abdullahi Mohamud after a highly successful sting operation. An undercover agent sold Mohamud an AK-47 rifle and ammunition to expose him. FBI Director Kash Patel confirmed they stopped the plot before anyone suffered harm. "This individual allegedly obtained a weapon he hoped to use in a mass casualty attack," Patel stated. Mohamud hails from the city of Richfield, Minnesota. He allegedly intended to kill between 30 and 60 people at the mall. He specifically targeted the famous Mall of America for the violent assault. He apparently chose this location because he falsely claimed it was Jewish-owned. He shared his evil intentions with an FBI source through hundreds of messages.
Pledging Allegiance To Daesh
He sent a selfie-style video pledging his absolute allegiance to Daesh terrorists. Mohamud allegedly wanted to emulate other high-profile, Daesh-inspired global terror attacks. He referenced the 2016 Pulse Nightclub Shooting that occurred in Florida. He also cited the recent 2025 Bondi Beach shooting in Australia. He identified October 24 as the exact date for his planned shooting. He wanted to target Asians and non-Muslims attending a planned arts celebration. US attorney Daniel Rosen stated Mohamud took substantial steps to murder innocent people.
Facing Federal Terrorism Charges
Authorities charged him with knowingly receiving a firearm to commit federal terrorism. He appeared before a federal judge on Wednesday to face the charges. The FBI continues to monitor domestic threats inspired by foreign terrorist organizations. Law enforcement relies heavily on undercover operations to neutralize these lone-wolf attackers safely.
